Multiple shot outside Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally

(NewsNation) — Shots were fired Wednesday near the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl Rally in Missouri, police said.

Several people were struck, a Kansas City Missouri Police Department spokesperson said. NewsNation local affiliate WDAF reports the shooting happened outside Union station.

Two armed people have been detained by police.

The Associated Press is reporting that 8-10 are injured. WDAF says one is critical. University Health Hospital and Children’s Mercy Hospital both said they are receiving patients from the rally.

Multiple people near the parade route were carried away on stretchers, as fans were urged by police to exit the area as quickly as possible.

Chase Gemes, who had been at the celebration, called the scene after the shooting “chaotic.”

“There were so many police cars and ambulances coming through the street,” he told NewsNation.

Reunification stations were set up inside the main entrance of Union Station and 2301 Main Street.
