MrBeast becomes most subscribed YouTuber in the world

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Call him MrYouTube now.

Greenville, North Carolina’s MrBeast now has the world’s most subscribed YouTube page. He overtook the Indian music site T-Series for the most subscribers late Saturday. He posted the news to social media platform X shortly after 11 p.m., saying “After 6 years we finally avenged Pewdiepie.”

The news was part of a big day that included the release of his latest YouTube video and the wild success of an Instagram video he posted before that.

Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie previously had the most subscribed YouTube page before T-Series took over as No. 1 in 2019 after a back-and-forth battle for subscribers. T-Series took over the lead for the final time as legal problems plagued PewDiePie.

Since then, MrBeast has made it a challenge to catch T-Series and “avenge” his YouTube friend. His followers have responded incredibly and grown at an unbelievable rate. His ascension to the top was so swift that even T-Series at one time took to social media to ask for more followers.

MrBeast had 252 million subscribers on Tax Day, April 15, while T-Series had 263 million. That seems like a big lead for the Indian music site, but observers realized that it wouldn’t take long for the Greenville resident to take over the top spot. There is even a website that kept up with the number of subscribers for both sites to chart how MrBeast was closing in on the top spot.

On May 17, T-Series had over 265 million subscribers, while MrBeast had just over 258 million. Earlier this week, MrBeast urged his fans to take a professional approach and not let his impending takeover of the No. 1 spot become racial.

When the news came that MrBeast was now No. 1 (and pulling away fast), it was hard for him and his fans not to celebrate. The outpouring of support and congratulations came into his X page throughout Sunday.

As of Sunday afternoon, T-Series had not responded to the news.
