Morning Routine? Wellness Influencer Goldie Hawn Has It Down

“When we wake up in the morning, we don’t want to jump out of bed right away…” Goldie Hawn, in her pajamas, explains to the camera on Instagram. With her famous blonde curtain bangs and signature tan, the 78-year-old made for a convincing wellness influencer as she took her 3.7 million followers through her mindful morning routine.

There are two things she swears by for good mental wellness. The first is breathwork. “The breath is amazing,” she says. “Before you jump out of bed, you just want to breathe. Breathe in, hold it for five seconds, and breathe out. After your third [breath], all of a sudden your eyes open up.” Both the slowing of the breath and holding it, can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for our rest and digest mode and ultimately calms us – so Hawn is onto something.

Once her eyes are open, Hawn performs a series of stretches, folding forward to stretch out her back, and then it’s all about noting what she’s grateful for. “I just think of three things I’m grateful for, just three,” she says, referencing her family as one. Then, “when you get up, you say ‘I’m going to have a really good day today, no matter what—even when we have problems, even when we have sadness, even when we have fear, this is going to be a good day.”

While her tips may sound simple, they are free and often recommended by experts to help manage stress.
