Dave Sanderson, one of the last passengers off U.S. Airways Flight 1549 during the “Miracle on the Hudson,” will be coming to Toronto to mark the 15th anniversary of the crash and to promote his new book.

The Limitless Life is Sanderson’s fourth book and he is set to visit Toronto to promote it from March 25 to March 28.

On Jan. 15, 2009, an Airbus A320 struck a flock of birds shortly after takeoff and lost all engine power.

Miracle on the Hudson ten years later
Pilots Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles decided to glide the plane into the Hudson River off Midtown Manhattan.
All 155 people on board were rescued by boat with only a few suffering serious injuries.
The time from the bird strike to the ditching was less than four minutes and the incident quickly became known as the “Miracle on the Hudson.”
Sanderson said the 15th anniversary was an emotional day.

“A potential tragedy was turned into a miracle,” Sanderson said. “It was all about a celebration and thanking those folks who turned that day around for all on the plane. The crew did a fabulous job that day and I will be forever grateful. What came out of that situation is how 155 people who didn’t know each other came together to work as a team.
“It has gone by very quickly. It has transformed what I do. I think about it every day. Something comes up that makes me think about it. I don’t have dreams about it anymore. It was a challenging life experience, but you can grow out of it. It can create opportunities. People ask how can you get back on a plane. You bounce back. I’m very blessed to be alive.”
He said that every time he goes to the Hudson River, he is reminded how powerful it is.
“You just have to face your fear … and know where the exits (on the plane) are,” he said.
