(WJW) — Actor Michael J. Fox made a surprise appearance at the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards Sunday night.
Fox, 62, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991.
He used a wheelchair on stage before standing at the podium to present the “Best Film Award.”
“There’s a reason why they say movies are magic, because movies can change your day. They can change your outlook, and sometimes even your life,” Fox said. “Five films were nominated in this category tonight and all five have something in common. They are the best of what we do.”

“Oppenheimer” took home the best picture prize.
Fox was also nominated for best documentary for his film “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie” about his life with Parkinson’s disease.
The film lost to the documentary “20 Days In Mariupol.”
Parkinson’s kills most patients within 20 years of diagnosis. Fox said he credits his longevity to his wife of 36 years Tracy Pollan.
He said when he told her of his Parkinson’s diagnosis, she responded, “For better or for worse.”
