In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Sophie’s Choice, Lanvin reunited the cast (Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, and Peter MacNicol) for a screening at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. Amid the buzz of awards season and anticipation of New York Fashion Week, kudos to Lanvin for drawing such an A-list crowd.

Sophie’s Choice, released in 1982, follows the fictional harrowing journey of Sophie Zawistowska, played by Meryl Streep—the memorable role earned her the 1983 Academy Award for Best Actress. And as for why Lanvin chose to screen Sophie’s Choice? The brand’s long-standing relationship with Streep, as Lanvin’s Siddhartha Shukla told Vogue. “There is a fundamental connection between a house that was founded by [Jeanne Lanvin], a woman who fundamentally shaped her culture and whose influence is still felt today, and Meryl, a woman who has fundamentally shaped culture and whose influence will be felt for a long time. These are some important parities,” said Shukla.

Cate Blanchett came out to celebrate the film screening, which was introduced by Shukla, Streep, Kline, and MacNicol. The red carpet included many celebrities dressed in Lanvin ensembles, including Claire Danes, Uma Thurman, and Sarita Choudhury. The latter, who has long been a fan of Lanvin, told Vogue: “Since I was in my 20s, anytime people would ask me what I would really like to wear, I would say Lanvin!”

Following the film screening, guests ambulated across the street to the lavish Baccarat Hotel for champagne flutes and a raw bar. Streep, Kline, and MacNicol reunited four decades later, creating a special moment for all in attendance. Zoe Buckman, Pat Cleveland, Ethan Hawke, Marilyn Minter, Holland Taylor, and Laurie Simmons all dropped by for the film screening affair. Set amongst the hanging Baccarat crystal chandeliers, the sophisticated cocktail party was an elegant setting for Lanvin to celebrate women creating enduring masterpieces.
