Megyn Kelly has hit out at a bonkers right-wing conspiracy theory flooding the Internet that claims Taylor Swift’s relationship with Travis Kelce is being orchestrated to control Americans.

After Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens to book a trip to the Super Bowl and face the San Francisco 49ers next month in Las Vegas, some conservative pundits have speculated that Swift’s appearance in the football world has been orchestrated by the government to try and brainwash Americans into voting for President Joe Biden.

But even though the fanciful plot gained steam after various MAGA Republicans suggested the Super Bowl would be rigged in the Chiefs’ favour to push more votes Biden’s way, Kelly dismissed the bizarre election conspiracy theory.

“People are acting like Taylor Swift holds the key to the presidency. She’s going to vote Biden … she’s going to endorse Biden and probably Travis Kelce will too … he’s big on Bud Light; he’s big on COVID vaccines and Pfizer. Why are people living in fear of this? … They are being propped up by a media that loves the number of hits she gets,” Kelly said this week on an episode of The Megyn Kelly Show alongside BlazeTV’s Glenn Beck and Rooted Wings’ founder Britt Mayer.

But the conservative talk show host went on to add that Swift’s impact is merely superficial and won’t affect the outcome of this November’s contest.

“I don’t know why people are so afraid of her. She does have power, she does have influence, she’s told people to go vote and something like 35,000 of them did. But registering to vote is not the same as actually voting,” the former Fox News personality continued.

Kelly said that Swift, who backed Biden in 2020, would be wise to stay out of the presidential race.

“If she’s smart, she will stay nonpolitical, which is better for her. She will not be the most popular person in America if she continues to antagonize half the country that votes Republican,” Kelly said.

Beck and Mayer called the theory that the relationship is a being pushed by the Democrats “crazy.”

But earlier this week, former presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy spoke about the plot when he responded to a post on X about Swift coming out as a “super liberal in 2020.”

“I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month,” wrote Ramaswamy, who exited the Republican race earlier this month and endorsed Donald Trump. “And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall. Just some wild speculation over here, let’s see how it ages over the next 8 months.”

“Why do the powers that be need this dynamic duo to sway the vote? Don’t they have enough dirty tricks up their sleeves as it is?” Alison Steinberg, a host on One America News Network, also asked.

Failed Republican congressional candidate Mike Crispi went a step further and suggested “the NFL is totally RIGGED”and Swift would boldly support Biden midway through the game.

“Swift comes out at the halftime show and ‘endorses’ Joe Biden with Kelce at midfield,” Crispi predicted.

On Reddit, there are numerous posts dedicated to discussing whether Swift is a psyop.

Earlier this month, Jesse Watters floated the unfounded notion that Swift was a government asset.

“Around four years ago, the Pentagon’s psychological operations unit floated turning Taylor Swift into an asset,” he said on an episode of his Jesse Watters Primetime show on Fox. “It’s real. The Pentagon Psyop unit pitched NATO on turning Taylor Swift into an asset for combating misinformation online.”

Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh shut down the speculation in a statement to Politico.

“As for this conspiracy theory, we are going to shake it off,” she said.

But as Biden loses ground to his presumptive challenger Donald Trump, his team is desperately seeking Swift’s endorsement to add some fuel to his moribund campaign.

On Monday, the New York Times published a story saying that Biden’s group is looking to assemble a cadre of social media influencers and elected officials to throw their support behind the incumbent.

Gov. Gavin Newsom of California, a top Biden supporter, said getting Swift’s backing could tilt voters in favour of Biden.

“Taylor Swift stands tall and unique,” he said. “What she was able to accomplish just in getting young people activated to consider that they have a voice and that they should have a choice in the next election, I think, is profoundly powerful.”

The Times reported that there’s even been talk of Biden checking in to one of the tour dates on the singer’s ongoing Eras Tour.

Her support would be a coup in his bid for re-election. A recent Newsweek poll claims that up to 18% of voters could be swayed by a Swift endorsement. Heck even the NFL has seen a boost since she started attending games last September.

In the wake of her romance with Kelce, Front Office Sports reported that Swift has created a “brand value” of US$331.5 million for the Chiefs and the NFL.

But Kelly thinks that Swift’s political sway would be minimal, mentioning how actor George Clooney has unsuccessfully tried to push Democratic candidates in the past.

“I’ve been through enough of these elections where we had George Clooney out there, but (voters) don’t listen. They don’t tend to actually do it.”
