On an episode of The Megyn Kelly Show podcast earlier this month, the conservative commentator invoked the actress’ name when she spoke with with The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles about young people becoming enamoured with cosmetic enhancements, calling it a “social illness.”

“She’s got the Kim Kardashian lips. She’s made her nose so skinny it looks like a pencil now. She’s got, like, what appear to me to be cheek implants,” Kelly said on the program

“More and more young women are doing this,” Kelly added. “It’s not about an objection to plastic surgery, it’s about an obsession with turning yourself into this fake version of yourself … I find it like a sign of mental illness. I really want to get in the heads of these young girls and say, ‘Please don’t do this.’”

During her segment, Kelly called Moriarty a “nice, beautiful, natural gal,” before criticizing a recent photo of the actress. “I thought it was just an AI-generated face… but apparently it’s real,” she said. “She’s done this to herself.”

In a statement posted to her Instagram, Moriarty — who plays superhero Starlight on Prime Video’s comic book series — accused Kelly of “bullying” and “misogynistic” behaviour, adding that the before photo Kelly displayed “had in actuality been taken about a decade ago before I was of LEGAL DRINKING AGE.”

“This is something I truly never anticipated writing,” read the statement shared by Moriarty. “We’re all subject to levels of bullying throughout our lives but I am horrified, and I felt that I deserved to take a second to address these things… To receive a message about a disgustingly false, counterproductive to the degree of being ironically misogynistic video of Megyn Kelly commenting on the manner — to learn the widespread nature of this has left me horrified.”

Moriarty concluded her message to her 1.9 million followers by writing that the “horrific allegations” left her stunned and hurt.

“Implying my photo is reflective of women being in a worse place is as false as my conviction in saying that if you resigned, you would be leaving women in a better place,” she wrote.

Fans flooded her Instagram page with supportive comments, including one person who wrote: “I’m convinced being famous isn’t worth it.”

Moriarty’s The Boys co-star Jack Quaid also backed her, writing, “Love you, Erin. F*** the haters.”

Meanwhile, the series’ producer Eric Kripke told critics to “f*** off” in a separate message.

But several followers accused Moriarty of being untruthful when it came to Kelly’s accusations.

“You look like a completely different person,” one person wrote. “Just have the guts to admit you clearly had a significant amount of fillers done. Nothing wrong with doing it, but don’t get upset when people call you out on it when you refuse to admit it.”

This isn’t the first time Moriarty has battled trolls who criticized her looks on social media.

“I do feel silenced. I do feel dehumanized. I do feel paralyzed,” she wrote alongside screenshots of a Medium article titled #IStandWithStarlight?: The betrayal of Erin Moriarty by The Boys ‘fans’ in 2022.
