The outspoken tennis legend served up her thoughts on the ear bandage that former U.S. President Donald Trump wore in his first public appearance since surviving an assassination attempt last week, calling it a “spectacle.”

Navratilova replied to a post on X (formerly Twitter) that showed a picture of the large bandage on Trump’s ear and questioned the severity of the 2024 U.S. presidential candidate’s injury.

“A good friend of mine is the charge nurse (Level IV FNP) at a major trauma center in a huge city,” the original post read. “She says there’s absolutely no need to dress an ear wound like this, unless half his ear was blown off. And even then, it wouldn’t look like this.”

Navratilova agreed, insisting this is a “PR stunt” by the former U.S. president.

“Of course – this is obviously a PR stunt – the day after the shooting he had no dressing on his ear… not even a band-Aid,” Navratilova wrote.

Trump was wounded when a shooter took aim at him during a rally in Butler, Pa., on Saturday. The Republican nominee was hit in his right ear before being whisked off stage by security – but not before raising his hand in the air and shouting “fight,” to the crowd.

Navratilova later responded to a commenter that said her initial response was “An ungracious comment that does you no favours.”

The 18-time major championship winner wrote: “The day before he wore nothing or a small bandaid no one could see while playing golf.”

“My stance on any kind of violence and also guns is pretty clear and knows no favor. Thank you,” she added.

Donald Trump Jr. made an appearance on Fox & Friends on Wednesday where he fired back at those questioning his father’s injury.

“He wasn’t shot in the face enough for them. It wasn’t enough?” he began. “That’s the point. They can’t help themselves. The Trump Derangement Syndrome is real. It’s so asinine that they could say that … You see the photograph at the time. There’s blood everywhere.”

Multiple attendees at the Republican National Convention were seen sporting similar bandages in a sign of solidarity to Trump.
