The scrap was filmed and shared online, where it has caught the attention of authorities.

In one part of the footage, an elderly man is approached by a member of the fighting group, who snatches his walking aid.

Despite trying to hold on, it is ripped from his hands and witnesses say it was then used as a weapon.

A bystander can be heard yelling “grow the f*** up” towards the fighting students.

The Department of Education said it is “deeply concerned” about the incident and extended “our best wishes for a full recovery to the victim”.

“It’s just unacceptable, and we want to see these kids actually suffer the consequences because they need to learn,” Fairfield Mayor Frank Carbone said on Friday.

Police have spoken to both schools and the students involved have now been identified.

Authorities are speaking with witnesses, with charges expected to be laid.
