Man wanted for theft of $43,000 from Toronto jewelry store

An unidentified man is sought for allegedly stealing an expensive watch from a downtown jewelry store last week.

Toronto Police say officers responded to a theft call that had just occurred in the area of Bay and Bloor Sts. around 5:20 p.m. on July 24.

“A man walked into a jewelry store (and) he requested to try on a watch,” Const. Ashley Visser said in a statement released Friday.

She said the man then fled the store without paying for the $43,000 watch.

Investigators subsequently identified a suspect and have now released a security camera image of the man hoping members of the public will recognize him and come forward.

The man is described as 20 to 25 years-old, about 5-foot-8, 160 pounds, with short black hair. He was wearing glasses, a light-coloured jacket, black shorts, white socks, black shoes and carrying a black backpack.
