Man in court after Australia Day fight at Sydney’s Manly Beach leaves another in intensive care

A 24-year-old man has been charged over an Australia Day fight in Sydney, after a 37-year-old man was left fighting for life.

Police allege Jessie Allan, 24, was drinking alcohol on January 26 when he got into an altercation at Manly Beach’s main shopping strip, The Corso.

Police allege he pushed Matthew Williams, 37, who fell to the ground and hit his head.

Williams was rushed to hospital, where he remains in intensive care.

At Manly Court House, Allan’s lawyer argued that Williams had provoked the 24-year-old.

Allan was granted bail, but ordered to live with his parents and only allowed to leave their house under strict supervision.

He will return to court in March.
