Man freed from wreckage of highway crash at Cowra dies on the way to hospital

A man has died on his way to hospital after a two-car crash on the state’s Mid Western Hwy about 7.20am on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old man was freed from the wreckage but died in the ambulance on the way to the airport, from where he was to be flown to hospital.

He was driving a Mazda sedan which was involved in a collision with a Ford Ranger on the rural highway about 10km west of Cowra.

The man was trapped inside the wreckage of his car for a short time.

He was freed and NSW Ambulance paramedics were taking him to hospital via Cowra Airport.

“The man died en route to the airport,” NSW Police said.

A 53-year-old woman who was behind the wheel of the Ford Ranger was taken to hospital for mandatory testing and observation.
