Man found in roof cavity charged over New Year’s Eve stabbing at Tamworth motel

A 43-year-old man found in the roof cavity of a Tamworth home on Tuesday has been charged over the stabbing of a 29-year-old man in a motel on New Year’s Eve.

The alleged stabbing victim was airlifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The 29-year-old was treated by NSW paramedics at the motel on Goonoo Goonoo Rd, Tamworth, and taken to Tamworth Hospital before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.

A 34-year-old woman was also arrested in relation to the incident two days later at another motel on Armidale Rd.

She was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with concealing a serious indictable offence, and being an accessory after the fact to reckless wounding.

She appeared at Tamworth Local Court on January 29, and granted conditional bail to reappear at the same court on February 14.

Then, at 2pm on Tuesday, NSW police attended a home on Kirkham Cres, Tamworth, where they found the 43-year-old man “hiding in the roof cavity”.

He was arrested and charged with reckless wounding.

The man appeared at Gunnedah Local Court on Wednesday and was formally refused bail. He is set to appear at Tamworth Local Court on February 12.
