A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death is underway.
The man is known to police, and his history and connections will form part of the investigation.
“This appears to be a targeted shooting,” Detective Superintendent Michael Mclean said.
“The vehicle, a dark-coloured sedan, approached the premises from a inner-westerly direction.
“The shooting occurred and the vehicle drove off.”
There were a number of residents in the street at the time of the shooting, but none near the man, Mclean said.
“Any shooting that occurs on our streets is a concern for us, but given the time of day clearly that heightens risk,” he said.
“We’re fortunate that no one else was either shot or injured as a result of this incident.”
The vehicle is yet to be located by police.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact police.
