A man who fell and hit his head during an alleged altercation following Australia Day celebrations in Manly died of his injuries on Tuesday night.
Matthew Williams, 37, was fighting for life in hospital for a week-and-a-half before he succumbed to the critical head injury he sustained in the early hours of January 27.
He was treated on the morning of the alleged assault for “a serious head injury” by NSW paramedics at The Corso just after 3am, before he was taken to Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.

Police were informed that he had died on Tuesday night.
Jessie Allan, 24, was arrested and charged the day after the incident, on January 28.
He was charged at the time with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
At Manly Court House, Allan’s lawyer has argued that Williams had provoked the 24-year-old. Police allege Allan pushed Williams during the fight.
Allan was granted bail, but ordered to live with his parents and only allowed to leave their house under strict supervision.
Investigations are ongoing, and the man remains before the courts.
