Man dies after car crashes with truck on NSW highway

A man has died after a truck and four-wheel-drive crashed in the NSW Central West.

The accident happened on the Newell Hwy, 15km north of Forbes, about 12.10pm, before both vehicles went up in flames.

Firefighters were called in to extinguish the fires.

The driver of the 4WD, a 55-year-old man, died at the scene.

The 31-year-old truck driver was treated by paramedics at the crash site.

He was then taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg and ribs, facial injuries and lacerations.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area on Monday afternoon as emergency services attended the scene

An investigation has been launched.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
