Man charged over death of security guard at Sydney’s Royal Hotel Sutherland pub

A man has been charged after a security guard died from injuries sustained when he was allegedly assaulted at a hotel in Sutherland in Sydney’s south overnight.

Emergency services received reports of the alleged assault at the Royal Hotel Sutherland on East Parade at 2am on Sunday.

NSW Police said officers rendered first aid to the security guard before he was treated by paramedics.

Despite their attempts to save him, the security guard died at the scene.

The guard is yet to be formally identified, police say, but is believed to be aged in his 30s.

Police believe the guard was allegedly punched to the head by a patron following an altercation.

Initial reports received alleged the patron had been requested to leave the hotel prior to the assault.

A 31-year-old man was taken to Sutherland Police Station and charged with assault occasioning death.

He was bail refused to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Monday February 26.
