A man has been charged over an alleged assault and deliberately lit fire in NSW.
The 40-year-old man allegedly assaulted his neighbour — a 56-year-old man — at a unit on Crown St in West Wollongong about 12pm on Monday.
Paramedics treated the older man at the unit for facial injuries before taking him to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.
When NSW Police later returned to the unit complex to speak with the younger man, they found the unit “well alight”.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire, but the unit was destroyed.
The younger man escaped the burning unit and was treated by paramedics before they transported him to Wollongong Hospital for assessment.
After he was released from hospital, police charged him with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, damaging a property by fire or explosion and hindering or resisting a police officer in execution of duty.
He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday.
