Man allegedly assaulted as Sydney home goes up in flames with residents still inside

A 59-year-old man has allegedly been assaulted as his home in Sydney’s southwest was set on fire while two others were still inside.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at the home on Perisher Circuit in Minto just after 11 pm on Friday.

A 59-year-old man was found inside with head injuries, firefighters reported.

Two women were evacuated through the rear door, uninjured.

It’s been alleged two people smashed the home’s front windows and started a fire in the living room.

NSW Police said the 59-year-old resident was assaulted with a metal bar when he went to see what happened.

The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes of emergency services arriving, but the home suffered significant damage.

The 59-year-old man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Fire investigators and police remain on the scene.
