Man accused of murdering wife at Hunter Valley home denied bail

A man charged with the domestic violence murder of his wife at their NSW Hunter Valley home has been denied bail.

Steven Galcsik, 47, is accused of killing his wife Natalie, 46, at the property in Pokolbin, about an hour’s drive west of Newcastle, on Friday.

Emergency services were called to the property over welfare concerns just after 6pm and arrived to find the 46-year-old with significant injuries.

“Initially, police did render first aid but shortly after that, it had become apparent that was unsuccessful,” Hunter Valley Police Acting Superintendent Steve Benson told reporters on Saturday.

The call to police came from a family member on the property and the woman’s 47-year-old husband was arrested without incident, Benson said.

“It was a confronting scene and we’ve put a lot of support around those officers and emergency services that attended … and for the family of the deceased,” he said.

Galcsik was charged with one count of domestic violence-related murder and was denied bail by police at Newcastle Bail Court on Saturday.

He faced court again on Monday, where no application for bail was made and it was formally refused by the magistrate.

Police established a strike force to investigate the death.

Galcsik will face court again in November.
