A 35-year-old man has been charged after an armed carjacking investigation in Mississauga earlier this week.

Peel Regional Police say a 34-year-old Mississauga woman was in a parking lot near Queen Frederica Dr. and Bloor St. at 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday when a man armed with a gun demanded her vehicle.

The victim complied and was uninjured.
The carjacker drove away in her car, police said.
Investigators from the Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force (PCJTF) and Peel Regional Police Central Robbery Bureau (CRB) found a suspect a short distance away and with the assistance of Tactical Unit officers they took the man into custody without incident.

At the time of the arrest, an edged weapon and a replica firearm were allegedly seized by police and the victim’s vehicle was recovered.
Michael Birchall, of Mississauga, is charged with six offences, including robbery and failing to comply with a release order.
