Lucca Comics and Games is, still, one of the most exciting and powerful pop-culture conventions in the world.
The weekend-long event takes over the entirety of Northern Italy’s walled medieval city, complete with banners, screenings, tournaments, stalls and excitement on every corner.
For just a few days each year, Lucca Comics and Games becomes the place to be for fans of films, TV shows, comic books, video games, card games, board games, etc, etc.
Looking ahead to Lucca Comics and Games 2024, it once again promises to become the place to be.
The line-up for the event was just announced, with some incredible attractions on the docket. Including an exciting Netflix preview for Squid Game 2.
Lucca Comics and Games 2024 will also drop the world premiere of Twilight of the Republic – the third set of Star Wars: Unlimited Trading Card Game.
Tetris will see the spotlight with excitement over its 40th anniversary, as well.
On top of that, there will be some particularly special celebrations for the upcoming 50th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons – the immersive role-playing game.
Crucially, however, this Dungeons & Dragons event will leave a permanent trace on the city of Lucca.
The basement of the city’s San Paolino Bastion will be named after the founding fathers of Dungeons & Dragons, Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson; bringing an end to the journey first brought to life 15 years ago by Larry Elmore, Tracy and Laura Hickman.
“It has been a long job,” festival Director Emanuele Vietina exclusively told Express.co.uk. “In Italy you need to wait ten years from the death of someone to name something [after] them.”
On top of that, he confessed it was not easy to convey just how important these figureheads in gaming were, and why they needed to be commemorated permanently.
“We are excited,” Emanuele went on. “Because it’s not about our passions – it is something that can connect the world.
“Fantasy and role-play games connect people all over the world … And also I hope it is important to all the passionate fans all over the world. Honestly, I hope that gamers from all over the world will come to [San Paolino] – maybe in the summer – [to play], there are tables, permanent tables, so I think it could be nice to play Dungeons & Dragons and role-playing games in the basement.”
Lucca Comics and Games 2024 kicks off on October 30, and runs to November 3.
