Lizzo reacts to South Park Ozempic joke: ‘My worst fear’

Lizzo is sounding off after South Park referenced her in their special episode spoofing weight-loss drugs like Ozempic.

South Park: The End of Obesity, streaming now on Paramount+, follows foul-mouthed Cartman after he recruits Kyle, Stan, Butters and Kenny for help when he is denied access to a weight-loss drug.

According to USA Today, after he learns his insurance won’t cover Ozempic to help him drop pounds, Cartman is made aware of a drug called Lizzo.

“Insurance companies only cover the medication for diabetes, not for weight loss, so if you can’t afford them, you’re just kind of out of luck,” the doctor says. Instead, he writes Cartman “a prescription for Lizzo.”

“She’s a really good singer who talks about body positivity and just being happy with the way you look,” the doctor quips. “I want you to listen to Lizzo five times a day and watch her videos just before bedtime. Oh, and I’m afraid you’ll have to be on Lizzo for the rest of your life.”

“FDA-approved Lizzo makes you feel good about your weight, and it costs 90% less than Ozempic. … In case studies, 70% of patients on Lizzo no longer cared how much they weighed,” a voiceover in a fake commercial for the drug says on the show, continuing the joke. “Lizzo helps you eat everything you want and keep physical activity to a minimum.”

Following the gag, Lizzo posted a video to Instagram and TikTok, “Guys, my worst fear has been actualized. I’ve been referenced in a South Park episode. I’m so scared.”

But the Grammy winner went on to call the segment “crazy” as she said she was proud she was namedropped by the animated show.

“I just feel like, damn, I’m really that bitch. I really showed the world how to love yourself and not give a f— to the point where these men in Colorado (South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone) know who the f— I am and put it on their cartoon that’s been around for 25 years. I’m really that bitch and I show you how to not give a f— and I’ll keep showing you how to not give a f—.”

The South Park bit comes after Lizzo was accused last year by some of her former dancers of harassment and fat shaming.

Last summer’s court filing claimed that after performing a concert in Amsterdam, Lizzo and her crew attended a sexually themed show at a club in the city’s notorious Red Light District where “Lizzo (allegedly) began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers.” During the show, Lizzo allegedly led a chant pressuring one dancer to touch the breasts of one of the nude women performing at the club, the filing states.

“Plaintiffs were aghast with how little regard Lizzo (allegedly) showed for the bodily autonomy of her employees and those around her, especially in the presence of many people whom she employed,” the complaint stated.

Lizzo was also accused of calling out one performer for her weight gain. 

The About Damn Time singer has denied the allegations.
