Lindsay Lohan Swaps Cady for Couture at the Mean Girls Premiere

According to some of those who happen to have seen the Mean Girls film (a new musical movie based on the 2018 broadway production, which was based on the 2004 feature, which was based on Rosalind Wiseman’s 2002 book Queen Bees and Wannabes), there is a “big surprise” in store. Which means that Lindsay Lohan is going to make a cameo, doesn’t it? That might just explain why she was the only member of the Plastics present at yesterday evening’s premiere in New York.

Lohan has, after all, released a catalogue of her own music: two studio albums and six singles, not to mention features on the Freaky Friday and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen soundtracks. And so she emerged on the pink carpet in NYC—flanked by writer Tina Fey and Megan Thee Stallion—in a crystal-belted gown from Alexandre Vauthier’s spring 2023 couture collection. (Insert quote here about Lohan looking “fetch”, “Thanks! It was my mom’s in the ’80s,” or something like that.)

Armchair critics have already interpreted Mean Girls (2024) as another example of entertainment’s downward spiral into mindless reboot culture. And I understand: I too have seen the trailer in which Regina George’s mother says the words, “Slay, queens!” But if the broadly positive reviews are to be trusted, perhaps the franchise will prove not all IP reproductions are made equal. “It’s not often that you have a movie that stands the test of time,” Lohan said. “Mean Girls opened people’s eyes to a lot of things going on in schools, but I think it was just a very fun movie.”
