Lewis Capaldi announces new music and shares health update with fans amid ‘indefinite break’

Lewis Capaldi has announced the release of five new songs while sharing a health update with fans amid his break from the public eye.

In the rare update posted to his social media channels, Capaldi said he was “overwhelmed” by the support he received after announcing his “indefinite break” in July.

The singer thanked fans for the support on his second album, and touched on his fear of “disappointing” fans ahead of it’s release, which was show in his Netflix documentary.

The album, titled Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, went on to become a huge hit for the singer and became one of the fast selling albums of 2023 in the UK.

The singer thanked fans for the support on his second album, and touched on his fear of “disappointing” fans ahead of it’s release.

Capaldi revealed in his update he’d always hoped to release and extended version of the album and said it would be “a shame” for the five unheard songs to never see the light of day.

He added that the songs are “so incredibly” special to him before confirming that “Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent (Extended Edition)” would be available to listen to New Year’s Day.

The 27-year-old has been open about his struggle with Tourette’s Syndrome since revealing his diagnosis in September last year but later announced it had worsened.

The Scottish singer then revealed he would be taking a break from the limelight “for the foreseeable future” in July of this year after struggling to finish a song in his Glastonbury set.

In the update posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, Capaldi said that he was working with professionals to learn how better to cope with his “Tourette’s and anxiety issues”.

“I’m really happy to say I’ve noticed a marked improvement in both since I decided to take some time off back in June.

“I was completely overwhelmed by the reaction to the news that I was taking a break and genuinely want to thank each and every one of you who reached out, left a comment, tweet or dm wishing me well, the support was like nothing I’ve ever experienced and has made me more excited than ever to return to doing what I love at some point in the not too distant future.

“For now though I just want to say another massive thank you for the support on my second album.”

He continued: “”This album was a scary one for me – if you saw the film I made on Netflix you probably know this already.

“But I was absolutely terrified of disappointing you all, afraid of not living up to expectations and in all honesty scared that the whole thing would be a complete flop. But thanks to all of you, it wasn’t.”

The singer confirmed that his return to the spotlight will be brief as he continues to work on his health and wellbeing adding, “I want to make absolutely sure I’m 100% before getting back out there again and doing what I love more than anything”.
