MANILA, Philippines—Back in February, University of Santo Tomas stunned La Salle in a five-set thriller that the reigning UAAP women’s volleyball champion hasn’t forgotten since.
The Lady Spikers have a chance to exact revenge against the Golden Tigresses on Saturday with a twice-to-beat incentive on the line.
“With us, like we said the last time, if someone is out, someone should step up. Hopefully, with whatever happens this coming Saturday, this team has to want to win,” La Salle deputy Noel Orcullo said in Filipino. after a quick demolition of Ateneo.
SCHEDULE: UAAP Season 86 volleyball second round
“Whatever we practice in training and whatever we plan to do against UST, hopefully we do them.”
Thea Gagate, who finished with 16 points built on six blocks against Ateneo, also knows the importance of securing the playoff advantage.
Gagate is fully aware of how tough it is to get one especially coming at the expense of the Tigresses.

“Those spots aren’t easy to get. We have to take it one game at a time and now that Ateneo’s done, we’ll focus more for our upcoming game against UST,” Gagate said.
With Angel Canino’s status still questionable, Gagate is trying to provide more leadership for La Salle
“There are times when some players lose confidence, especially if they make a mistake and as an ‘ate’ inside the court, I need to remind them that they can play. If we’re strong individually, what more if it’s as a whole team?”
