KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The NFL’s most talked about love affair all started with a friendship bracelet.
After scoring a touchdown Sunday, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce explained a heart symbol he made with his hands on his most recent New Heights podcast.
“You gotta spread that love baby,” Kelce told his brother Jason.
Now The Best of Kansas City, a store inside Crown Center, did its best to spread that love at a Saturday event ahead of Sunday’s game.
It started as a wager with a Baltimore store with a similar “The Best of” name.
“They said ‘would you like a friendly wager for Ronald McDonald House charities?’ and we said absolutely!” Montica Alexander, owner and KCEO of The Best of Kansas City, said.
The two stores bet a gift basket on the game to send to the opposing cities Ronald McDonald House. But as Kansas City is in “its Chiefs Era”, for this bet the end zone is the friend zone with Taylor Swift for inspiration.
“Ours is going to have our secret weapon in it which is going to be all the friendship bracelets that we are hoping everyone shows up tomorrow to make for us,” Alexander explained.
The store welcomed families over the weekend to come and help make friendship bracelets to send to Baltimore’s Ronald McDonald House.
“People just love her and it just ties so well into Kansas City. It’s a positive thing because we are dealing with children and Ronald McDonald House as a charity,” Alexander said.
Across the skywalk at Union Station, fans were also able to get their picture with a larger than life Travis Kelce making his now famous celebration with the text, “You Gotta Spread That Love, Baby” There were several other Chiefs-themed displays as well.
