Josh Brolin has starred in some great movies in his four decades in Hollywood, from The Goonies and No Country for Old Men to playing Thanos in the MCU and now starring in Dune 2.
This weekend, the 56-year-old reprises Gurney Halleck in Dune: Part Two, the part that was originally played by Sir Patrick Stewart in David Lynch’s original adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel.
During a recent interview promoting Dune 2, the Oscar-nominee confessed that there was one movie in his back catalogue that he’ll never stop slamming.
The film in question is 2010 box office disaster Jonah Hex, in which he starred in the title role opposite John Malkovich, Megan Fox, Michael Fassbender, Will Arnett and Michael Shannon.
Based on the DC superhero comic about a Confederate soldier, the 81-minute movie made just $11 million on a budget of $47 million and was lambasted by critics despite its impressive cast.
Speaking with GQ, Brolin didn’t hold back: “I won’t ever stop sh***ing on Jonah Hex…because it was a sh***y f***ing movie!”
Taking a breath, the Dune star did then admit he had a good relationship with the flop’s director Jimmy Hayward, saying he was too inexperienced at the time to give the movie the shot in the arm it needed.
The pair have reconnected in recent years with the filmmaker apologising to Brolin for the film, before sharing that he’s been suffering from painful bone cancer.
The actor added: “It reminded me [that] you can’t just keep sh***ing on somebody. I don’t know what the f***’s going on in his life. I mean, total facial reconstruction, the whole thing.”
