The former Marine’s time at North Carolina’s military base Camp Lejeune in the ‘80s was where he came into contact with the severely polluted water.
The condition can damage the peripheral nervous system, and for Bobbitt, it caused him nerve damage and osteomyelitis, an infection of the bones that leads to ulcers and requires skin grafts.
Bobbitt has had multiple surgeries, telling the U.K. Sun that during his last procedure in 2023, his remaining toes were amputated, leaving him unable to work.
He now wears prosthetic shoes and walks with a limp, and is no longer able to feel any sensation in his feet, the outlet reported.

He told the Sun that he believes the mental and physical scars he suffered from his time at the base camp was a contributing factor to his troubled marriage.
“I wasn’t behaving the way I should have,” he told the outlet.
“Maybe I would have made better decisions if my cognitive functioning wasn’t distorted by the chemicals.”
The Bobbitts became infamous in June 1993 after Lorena used a kitchen knife to slice off John’s penis while he slept, accusing him of years of rape and abuse. Police retrieved the severed appendage which was successfully reattached during surgery.

The then-bouncer eventually starred in two porn films.
“There is a saying that truth is the antidote to chaos,” said Bobbitt, who went on to star in two porn films.
“Things can be a lot better if you tell the truth,” he continued. “My heart was ripped out, but she has her story, and I have mine.”
