Jeremy Renner update: New post from Marvel starprompts outpouring of love

Just over one year on from a horrific snow plough accident, actor Jeremy Renner has returned to work.

The Marvel star was crushed under a snow plough on January 1, 2023, as he tried to help his nephew remove the stuck vehicle from snow at his home in Reno, Nevada.

Renner, 52, had to be airlifted to hospital after breaking more than 30 bones in his body, including eight ribs, an eye socket and his knee.

He also suffered a collapsed lung and his liver was pierced by a broken rib bone.

There were fears he may not survive or ever be able to walk again.

But the plucky Mayor of Kingstown star was determined to recover — and return to acting again.

And that’s just what he did on Wednesday, suiting up to return to the set for the third season of the popular TV show.

“Day one on set … nervous today,” Renner wrote on Instagram.

“Hope this works out that I can ACTUALLY pull this off for our production and, more importantly, the fans.”

Fans rushed to wish him well as he resumed filming, congratulating him on his courage and determination to recover from his injuries.

“You’re gonna crush this season,” one follower wrote.

“Don’t be nervous, you’ll ace it!” wrote another.

“You got this!!!” exclaimed a third.

“So proud of what you have done in one year,” one fan said.

Reflecting late last year on the devastating accident, Renner said he had learned to seize the day.

He began working on an album, writing lyrics about his traumatic experience, and made sure to focus not only on physical therapy but on mental recovery.

“My greatest therapy has been my mind and the will to be here and push to recover and be better,” he wrote in November on Instagram.

“I feel it’s my duty to do so.

“Not to squander my life being spared, but to give back to my family, friends, and all of you who have empowered me to endure.

“I thank you all.”

Renner, a two-time Oscar nominee, told Diane Sawyer in an interview last year that while he thought he might die from his injuries, he refused to be “haunted” by the accident.

The Marvel star said he was “awake through every moment” as the seven-tonne machine crushed him.

“I’d do it again,” he said to a stunned Sawyer, adding that the act saved the life of his young nephew, who was in the way of the incoming plough.

“I’d do it again because it’s going right at my nephew.”

Renner’s nephew recalled seeing his uncle lying “in a pool of blood coming from his head, I ran up to him and I didn’t think he was alive”.

The 911 call was also shared, showing Renner crying out in pain as he was encouraged to “keep breathing”.

“I chose to survive. That’s not gonna kill me, no way,” he told Sawyer.

“I’ve lost a lot of flesh and bone in this experience, but I’ve been refuelled and refilled with love and titanium.”

Just two months after the freak accident, Renner shared footage of himself walking on an antigravity treadmill as he chatted to another man.

“I now have to find OTHER things to occupy my time, so my body can recover from my will,” he captioned the video.

In November, he shared another video that captured him hopping sideways down a steep driveway, and then running back up.

“Today marks the day of 10 months of recovery,” he wrote in the caption.

“First attempt at any of this activity (especially at steep grade) and was brought to tears of joy, hopefulness, and gratitude for all your support along with my family and friends.

“I keep pushing for many reasons, but you are my fuel 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼.”
