On Tuesday’s episode, recent Yale graduate Amar Kakirde was in second place with $14,200 heading into Final Jeopardy and wagered all but $1 of it on the final clue under the category of “European Scientists.”
Steve Miller, a retired medical transcriptionist from Oregon, was slightly ahead of Kakirde with $15,400, while Abby Mann, a digital scholarship librarian from Illinois, had $8,200.
The final question read: “On the 2022 bicentennial of his birth, the body of this man was exhumed and DNA used to determine his genetic afflictions.”
Kakirde, a four-game winner, incorrectly guessed, “Who is Tesla?”
His fellow contestants also got the answer wrong, but they didn’t make as bold of a wager.
Kakirde was left with $1, while Miller ended up with $2,399 and winner Mann won with $5,200.

When the correct answer was revealed, host Ken Jennings went on to explain: “The reason why they celebrated this man by looking at his genes is because it was Gregor Mendel, the father of heredity.”

The shocking come-from-behind win for Mann had fans of the show weighing in on the Jeopardy! Reddit discussion board.
“Hard to believe a four-time champ would make such a glaring wagering error in FJ,” said one fan of the show. “If Amar had bet the standard cover of $1,201 he’d be a five-game winner and a ToC (Tournament of Champions) lock.”
Another wrote: “Good match. Amar’s big over-bet cost him the win unfortunately.”
One fan tried to justify Amar’s wager, writing, “Amar was playing from a position of ‘I already have a ton of money, so let’s go big.’”
