Jay Slater missing – latest: Father breaks down in emotional plea in Tenerife as GoFundMe page hits target

Jay Slater’s father makes six-word plea to son at visit to site of search

Jay Slater’s father has made an emotional plea for his missing son to return home as he joins the search for him in Tenerife.

Speaking through tears alongside Jay’s brother Zak on the seventh day of the search, Warren Slater, 58, said: “I just want the boy back.”

The pair were also joined by nine of Jay’s friends in Masca, which is where search and rescue personnel have been scouring after the 19-year-old was last seen there on Monday morning.

Jay’s mother, Debbie Duncan also issued the following direct plea to her son on Saturday: “We just need you home.”

The message comes as the official fundraiser launched to help the apprentice bricklayer hit its £30,000 target. As of Sunday afternoon, almost 3,000 people had donated to the GoFundMe page.

Authorities have been searching for Jay since Monday after he called his friend at around 8.15am, to say he was lost, dehydrated and had one per cent phone battery.

His last known location, which was pinged from his phone at 8:50am, placed him on a path in the mountainous terrain of the Rural de Teno national park.

Officers search in barrels on seventh day of search

Search teams have narrowed their efforts on small buildings close to where his phone last pinged in Tenerife.

Officers from the Guardia Civil in the Canary Islands could be seen circling two structures at the bottom of a ravine in Rural de Teno Park on Sunday.

Efforts appeared to be solely focused on the one area after days of searches in the village of Masca and the surrounding landscape.

Those conducting the searches on the seventh day of the hunt for Mr Slater could be seen looking into blue barrels outside one of the small buildings.

A fundraiser set up by the last person to speak to Jay Slater, the British teenager who went missing during a holiday in Tenerife, has hit its target of £30,000.

The GoFundMe created by Lucy Law to “get Jay Slater home” had received £31,721 in donations by Sunday evening.

The page was set up by Mr Slater’s friend three days ago and a post below, which claims to be from Mr Slater’s mother Debbie Duncan, confirmed it was “approved by our family”.

The post said: “We have not yet withdrawn any funds and are currently covering the expenses, such as the trip to Tenerife and accommodation, ourselves. The funds will remain on hold with GoFundMe until we post a further update on this page.”

Jay Slater’s employer says the ‘picture being painted of him is just not true’

Jay Slater’s employer has said the “picture being painted of him is just not true”.

Construction company PH Build Group said in a statement issued on Facebook: “Our Jay is still missing!

“We have decided to remove our last post due to all the negative comments and conspiracy theories.

“Jay has been with us since he left school and is liked by all. He’s a valued member of our team and we stand by him.

“The picture being painted of him is just not true.

“The fact is he’s a 19-year-old lad missing in a foreign country. He needs to be back home where he belongs. Come on Jay we are all praying for you.”

How Nicola Bulley investigator says he could find answers for Jay Slater’s family in three days

A detective who worked on the Nicola Bulley case has claimed he can deliver answers to Jay Slater’s family “in three days” if he’s allowed to join the search.

He offered his services to the missing 19-year-old’s family for free on Sunday as the day continued into its seventh day.

“I would quickly be able to do establish whether or not there are suspicious circumstances – but I’d need total access to everything and to speak to all the witnesses involved,” he told Manchester Evening News.

“Having feet on the ground and looking at the scenario and circumstances, I know I will get to the bottom of this in three days.

“If the family work with me, I will get them answers. It is crucial for the family. It is difficult for them, dealing with foreign police who handle it differently.

He added: “But I’d need their full cooperation, I’d need to speak to every witness involved; those that he’s been with since he’s been on the island. Some people will be more persons of interest than others.

“It’s a week on now – I need to get on the ground and get them answers. It’s about finding Jay. I come with credibility, will work with them and Spanish police, and get them the answers they need.

“We need to establish what the involvement is with these two guys [he stayed with], why he went back to the Airbnb and then why just leave? The chances of him wandering off are possible, but is there more to this?”

Jay Slater’s mother reveals abuse from trolls calling her ‘Karen Matthews’

Jay Slater’s mother has said she is being trolled on social media over her choice not to visit the current search site above the village of Masca with other family members.

Debbie Duncan, 55, said her decision has led to vile comparisons being drawn between her and Karen Matthews, the mother who was behind the fake kidnap of her own daughter, nine-year-old Shannon Matthews, in 2008.

Ms Duncan told MailOnline: “People keep saying on social media why aren’t I up there and calling me the new Karen Matthews, I just can’t face it.

“I don’t want to go up there in case I see something that I don’t want to. I’m just hoping everything will turn out for the better. If I went up there I would just break down.

“The last few days have been awful. I just need him back. He is a handsome lad from Lancashire and he shouldn’t be missing in Tenerife.”

What will the GoFundMe money be spent on?

As the donations pour in for the official Jay Slater GoFUndMe, questions have been raised about what the money being donated will be used for.

On Friday evening, the administrator of an official Facebook page set up to help find Jay responded to claims his close family was being impersonated on social media.

Rach Harg, who is a friend of Jay’s family, added that money raised would be sent to Jay’s mother and would be used to fund his family staying in Tenerife for the duration of the search.

Fireman searching for Jay Slater says case is ‘increasingly strange’

A fireman who is assisting the search for Jay Slater in Tenerife said his disappearance is becoming “increasingly strange” as the search continues.

Fireman Riccardo, a member of the Brigada Forestal, told Manchester Evening News: “It’s very difficult to find people here, because of the ravines and the mountains.

“I’ve seen the case and about the missing boy on the internet… but the days are now passing by and it’s increasingly strange that he hasn’t appeared yet. The information we have is that Jay [and his friends] were going to a music festival, and afterwards, the last sign of him was around here in the Teno Rural Park.

“I don’t know if he was walking, hiking.. I just don’t know. That’s where I lose the thread.” He added: “It’s so strange.”
