Insider sheds light on Goff’s long-term future as Lions QB

When the Los Angeles Rams sent quarterback Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions during the 2021 offseason, he was considered by many as nothing more than a throw-in bridge starter until the Lions drafted their next franchise QB with one of the two first-round picks L.A. sent them for QB Matthew Stafford.

But three years later, Goff, who has one more year left on the four-year, $134M contract he signed with the Rams in 2019, has resurrected his career in Detroit and he’s likely in line for a big-money extension, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“They had hopes that he would be the franchise guy that he has now become,” Rapoport stated. “His production this year actually rivals his production he had during his best year with the Rams. He’s heading into a contract year next year and he’s had some brief extension talks before the season, Expect those to ramp up after the season with Goff once again proving his worth as a franchise quarterback in the NFL.”
