I had honestly forgotten how adorable and beachy tiny, face-framing braids can be until I saw Ashlee Simpson Ross wearing them nowhere near sand or a body of water. But if I’ve learned anything in my lifetime thus far, it is this: One woman’s career achievement anniversary celebration hairstyle is another woman’s casual summer vacation hairstyle. (That’s some pretty deep philosophical stuff, right?)
As of this past weekend, it has somehow been 20 years since Ross released her debut album, Autobiography, and on Saturday, she commemorated it by performing at the Heart nightclub in West Hollywood. And while she and her friends, family, and fans celebrated a special-edition re-release of the album (with three new songs!), we’re also celebrating how friggin’ cute her hair looked.
Ross, who’s been wearing her hair in a stunning coppery color for the last couple of years, was seen while wearing it long, loosely waved, and middle-parted. But what really made it a stand-out hair moment were the itty-bitty pieces (pieces, pieces) braided right at the front of her hair. They’re so tiny, in fact, that stylist Lindsey Neavitt of Nine Zero One Salon didn’t even tie them off— and yet, they seem to have survived singing, partying, and signing autographs.
