IKEA recalls popular powerbank over fire and burns risk

A popular IKEA powerbank has been recalled over a risk of serious injury or fire damage, due to a manufacturing fault.

The dark blue “VARMFRONT power bank” can overheat and melt during use, the Product Safety Australia recall said on Monday.

“Consumers should stop using affected power banks immediately,” it said.

“There is a risk of serious injury from burns and/or property damage from fire if the power bank overheats during use.”

The recalled powerbanks were sold at IKEA stores nationally and online throughout March.

The affected model — E2038 — with a 10400 mAh battery capacity will display the identifying number 70559612.

The affected units will also display one of the following date stamps (YYWW) in the bottom right-hand corner, on the back of the power bank: 2313, 2316, 2318 or 2319.

Customers can get a full refund on the powerbanks by returning them to an IKEA store.
