Sabrina Elba has revealed that her husband’s fashion choices often see him land a spot on the best dressed lists, much to her annoyance.
The Canadian model and businesswoman, 35 opened up about Idris Elba’s “behaviour” on the Glad We Had This Chat with Caroline Hirons podcast, jokingly saying “he’s gonna kill” her once he hears the episode.
In what Caroline described as one of her “Jim stories”, she recounted a hilarious moment when her husband said he only needed a “new pair of chinos and a white shirt” for their oldest child’s wedding.
She said her husband is part of a “demographic” of men that say to themselves, “Oh, I look alright. What’s the big deal?” However, contrary to Caroline’s husband’s fashion faux pas, it would seem that Idris, 51, continues to turn heads for the right reasons.
Sabrina said: “Do you know what the most annoying thing is? Idris will still end up on the best dressed list. Who’s writing these lists? And you know, someone is enabling his behaviour is all I’m saying.”
She continued: “And I’m not saying he looks bad, but I think a little effort… he’s gonna kill me. He’s gonna be like, ‘Don’t talk to Caroline anymore’.”
Caroline said Idris “needs to rise” to his wife and he’s “punching” (above his weight), although she conceded that it’s not like the celebrated actor isn’t a “handsome chap”, with Sabrina admitting he’s “quite cute”.
Sabrina spoke about her love of fashion shows and explained that Idris “loves fashion” but doesn’t enjoy the “effort” needed, “getting photographed going in” and not being able to simply watch.
She “kinda get(s) that” but also loves the “glamorous side” of the process, yet Idris is “100 percent over” having his photo constantly taken by the press after so many years in the limelight.
Idris appeared at an event in “Havaianas and a sweater” while Sabrina sported a gown as he was “sick of all this stuff”, but he did ensure that he complimented his wife.
The Wire actor fell in love “at first sight” with Sabrina when they met in a jazz bar in Vancouver in 2017 while he was filming The Mountain Between Us with Kate Winslet, according to People.
The couple tied the knot at a Moroccan ceremony in 2019, but it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. In 2021, it was reported that the Luther star used to urge Sabrina to end their relationship when she questioned his “tantrums”.
He said these were due to a period of stress he experienced during the early days of their relationship, and he told Sabrina to “leave” if she couldn’t deal with his anger.
Idris said on the Coupledom podcast: “Sabrina and I, very early in our relationship I was very stressed so I had these massive anger tantrums that were like explosions.
“She was like, ‘Who are you?’ I was always the first to say, ‘Hey, if you’re not happy, leave. Move.’ It was kind of like a male instinct,” Idris admitted.
