For those who grew up in the ‘90s, the house from Home Alone is what dreams were made of — or nightmares if you were two bumbling burglars being outsmarted by a 10-year-old.

The gorgeous red-brick, colonial Georgian-style mansion where Kevin McCallister grew up and defended when he was, well, home alone, is located in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka, according to Coldwell Banker Realty’s Dawn McKenna Group, which is listing the home.

“Ever wanted to live like Kevin McCallister? Now is your chance to fulfill your childhood dreams!” read a recent social media post from the brokerage.

The home is being listed for US$5.25 million (about C$7.2), according to the real estate group’s post, which was accompanied by a video tour of the home.

“While much of the home will look familiar, you won’t believe what the sellers have done to transform this famous home, nearly doubling the livable footage and adding a state of the art sport court!” the post continued.

The video of the renovated five-bedroom, six-bathroom, 9,126-sq. ft. estate shows several clips from the 1990 Macauley Culkin movie.

The home was built in 1921 but you’d never know it, what with the extravagant amenities like the state-of-the-art movie theatre and the aforementioned indoor court that features a true three-point line for sharp-shooting basketballers.

The house also boasts a sunroom with a wood-burning fireplace, an open, dream kitchen with two islands, and refurnished attic that now features a full bath with a soaking tub — and no booby traps or pet tarantula from what we can tell.

The current owners renovated and expanded the property in 2018, according to the listing, making sure to take “the utmost care in maintaining the architectural detail and integrity of the home’s most memorable and recognizable spaces.”

That includes the main entry staircase that Kevin (Culkin) sleds down the main staircase of the home, as well as the formal living and dining spaces where the character hosted a fake Christmas party complete with a Michael Jordan cut-out circulating the room on a toy train, mannequins and lots of string.

Realtors called the home “a piece of American history” and “one of the most famous houses in the world.”

In December 2021, Airbnb listed the home for a one-night stay for families looking to recreate the magic of the classic holiday movie.
