Hyundai Veloster vehicles recalled due to fire risk

More than 12,000 Hyundai vehicles have been recalled due to a manufacturing defect that could cause a vehicle fire.

This week, the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications issued a recall of 12,543 HYUNDAI Veloster (FS) vehicles from 2011 to 2014.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, brake fluid may leak into the Antilock Brake System (ABS) control module. This could cause an electrical short circuit leading to a vehicle engine compartment fire while parked or driving,” it wrote.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of an accident causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property.”

The owners of affected vehicles can contact their nearest authorised Hyundai dealer to schedule an appointment to have the multi-fuse replaced, free of charge.

“Affected vehicles should be parked in an open space and away from flammable materials and structures, i.e. not in a garage,” it warned.
