If you suffer from embarrassing foot odour, a doctor has revealed his simple trick to get rid of the smell — using two unusual supermarket items found in most homes.
Dr Joe Whittington explained how black tea and mouthwash can do wonders for treating your smelly feet, having learnt about the little-known remedies while working in the medical industry.

For foot odours, simply soak your feet in a potent mixture of black tea for 20 minutes to eliminate the unwanted smell.
Black tea contains a substance called tannic acid, which is said to act on sweat glands to reduce their activity.
“Soak feet in black tea for 20 minutes to reduce foot odour, as the tannins kill bacteria and close pores,” Dr Whittington said.
To effectively remove the bad odour from your feet, first thoroughly infuse two tea bags in boiling water, for 10-15 minutes.
Then add the bags and the infused water to one litre of cool water.
Soak your feet in the water for 20 minutes every day for a week.
Dr Whittington says if you have athlete’s foot, a common fungal infection that can cause pungent smells, apply mouthwash to your feet.
“Mouthwash can fight athlete’s foot,” he said.
To prevent athlete’s foot, soak a cotton ball with mouthwash and swab the bottom of your feet and between toes after every shower.
The high alcohol content is said to help ward off fungal infections.
Simply repeat the step every day until the fungus clears up.
Dr Whittington’s two videos of the hacks have been viewed nearly 200,000 times combined — with many suggesting they were keen to give the remedies a go.
“Wow — the black tea one I never knew,” one said.
Meanwhile, one nurse weighed in: “Nurse here — know all this. This is cool for people who don’t know home remedies.”
