According to sources from Page Six, the former secretary of state of the United States humorously replied to tough questions posed to her by “anxious and irate” Democrats with influence at a gathering at the home of venture capital executive Jacqueline Novogratz.

The source noted Clinton joked about how one can relate to situations where “you have to take the keys away from older parents,” implying that Biden can’t be forced out and that “only people who could persuade Biden (to exit) are the people closest to him.”

Another Page Six source stated the 76-year-old Clinton said it would be challenging to convince Biden, 81, to step aside.

Clinton reportedly told the crowd of 70 Democrats that she “certainly” believed Biden would win re-election against Republican candidate Donald Trump, and that she wouldn’t touch the nomination of a potential replacement with a “10-foot pole.”

The former first lady asked the guests why they would want a Biden replacement when they “could have a clear shot to run your own campaign in 2028?” Clinton reportedly said she hoped someone would prove her wrong in the next couple of weeks.

Clinton also reportedly talked about political issues that would involve the commitment of delegates and the transfer of campaign funds should Biden step aside — all of which would favour Vice-President Kamala Harris as a suitable replacement.

Page Six sources said Clinton also discussed Biden’s future with her husband, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama, both of whom are naturally familiar with the presidential role.

It appeared like everyone in attendance at the gathering was in favour of Biden stepping aside following his poor performance at June 27’s televised debate against Trump. However, instead of talking about Biden withdrawing from the race, Clinton discussed what could happen in different scenarios.

Page Six also reported Clinton talked about Biden’s past challenges personally and professionally as an example of the president running his race to the end.
