Helicopter carrying two Australians crashes in Bali

A tour helicopter carrying two Australians and three Indonesian nationals has crashed in Bali’s South Kuta region, reportedly after becoming entangled in a kite string.

The Bell 505 Jet Ranger X helicopter went down in the coastal area of Pecatu just after 2.30pm on Friday.

It is understood the crash unfolded minutes after takeoff from a helipad at Garuda Wisnu Kencana.

With the Australian pair were a pilot, a crew member and another passenger.

Everyone aboard the chopper was “evacuated safely”, Indonesia’s search and rescue agency BASARNAS said.

Three of those onboard were taken to a hospital for further treatment.

Authorities say a team is being sent to the crash site for further investigation.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to two Australians in Bali,” the department said.

Indonesia, a sprawling archipelago nation of about 270 million people, has been plagued by transportation accidents in recent years, including plane crashes and ferry sinkings.
