Gordon Ramsay Says He’s ‘Lucky To Be Here’ Following ‘Really Bad’ Bike Accident

Gordon Ramsay is emphasizing the importance of wearing a helmet while biking after revealing that he was involved in an accident last week in Connecticut.

“I had a really bad accident and it really shook me and, honestly, I’m lucky to be here,” said the celebrity chef and “Hell’s Kitchen” star in a video shared to social media on Saturday.

He continued, “Now, from those incredible trauma surgeons, doctors, nurses and the hospital that looked after me this week, they were amazing. But, honestly, you’ve got to wear a helmet.”

Ramsay, in a post to his Instagram page, showed a “before” picture of him with his bicycle as well as an “after” photo that revealed the damage to his helmet following the accident.

“I don’t care how short the journey is, I don’t care [about] the fact that these helmets cost money but they’re crucial. Even with the kids, a short journey, they’ve gotta wear a helmet,” he said.

He noted that he’s been in pain and it’s been a “brutal week” before pulling back his chef’s coat to reveal a massive bruise on his torso.

Ramsay — who prefaced his “important message” by remarking on his love for cycling and triathlons — tied his call for bikers to wear helmets into Father’s Day weekend and asked dads to do their part, as well.

He wrote in a social media caption that he’s been “doing ok” and didn’t break any bones or suffer any major injuries, adding that his bruise is “looking like a purple potato.”

“I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawerence + Memorial Hospital in New London who looked after me and checked me out, but most thankful for my helmet that saved my life,” Ramsay wrote.

“Have a great Father’s Day and be safe Gx.”
