Goldie Hawn Shares Her Secret For A Long-Term Romance

Goldie Hawn, who has been with her partner and fellow actor Kurt Russell for more than 40 years, was recently asked by E! News what it takes to have a long-lasting romance — and she gave a pretty spicy albeit straightforward answer.

“You have to have good sex,” the star of 1992′s “Death Becomes Her” told E! last week. “Because sex is something that connects you and creates more belonging. People who have healthy sexual relationships usually last a lot longer. But it’s not just because of the act, it’s because of the warmth and the intimacy that it creates.” She then added jokingly: “You have to be nice to each other upon occasion.”

Although some couples thrive in sexless of low-sex relationships — especially if the pair is asexual, have low libidos or the couple places higher values on other aspects of their relationship — this isn’t the case for many.

In fact, the search-term “sexless marriage” was found to be the most-searched marriage complaint on Google in 2015, data scientist Seth Stephens-Davidowitz reported. Sex experts also told HuffPost in 2017 a huge indicator that a couple will not make it long-term or in a marriage is if they stop having sex.

“Partners end up alienating each other on a very deep, very primal and sometimes emotional level,” Sari Cooper, a certified sex therapist, told HuffPost at the time. “Very frequently the couple not only avoids sex but the discussion of the problem itself. That only leads to a further sense of isolation and loneliness for the partners.”

Although the “Banger Sisters” actor spoke of the importance of sex in her relationship, she had a few caveats about this on “The School of Greatness” podcast in June.

“Sex is important,” Hawn said at the time. “So when you’re having a good sexual relationship with someone, that doesn’t always mean you love them; it means you have fun with them.”

She implied to the podcast’s host, Lewis Howes, that another dynamic in their relationship explains why she fell for Russell — and it involves her daughter Kate Hudson and son Oliver Hudson with her first husband, musician Bill Hudson, and her son with Russell, Wyatt Russell.

“For me, I wanted to know I would find someone who loves my children as much as I do.”
