Woah! I’m sure many wondered whether Jesper De Jong’s head would drop after losing that tight second set against Carlos Alcaraz.

The opposite has happened on Philippe-Chatrier. Instead, the Dutchman has raced to the double break and leads 4-1 in the second, now in a great position to force the fourth.

A huge roar from Jabeur as a match full of twists and turns finally goes the way of the Tunisian, much to the delight of the Suzanne-Lenglen crowd. That wasn’t always convincing but Jabeur survives and there’s a warm embrace between the players at the net. Jabeur has had a tough year since her defeat in the Wimbledon final last July, but she will hope to build on this testing win after reaching the third round.

Jabeur addresses the crowd in French: “It was an honour to play in front of you against such a great player, but I was able to fight to get into the next round. The crowd gives me a lot of energy. I hope to see many more Tunisian flags and go as far as I can in this tournament.”

Next up on Suzanne-Lenglen will be Andrey Rublev, a player in form after winning the title in Madrid. The sixth seed is up against the Spaniard Pedro Martinez.

But Jabeur breaks straight back, and will now serve for the match! A wonderfully constructed point from the Tunisian, bringing Osorio into the net with a typically cutting drop shot, before playing the passing shot down the line.

Another twist as Camila Osorio breaks back against Ons Jabeur in the third set over on Suzanne-Lenglen! A couple of loose points from Jabeur on deuce sees Osorio hit back once again to get the deciding set back on serve.

And that, everyone, is what a champion’s timing is all about. After saving break points in the previous game, Alcaraz senses his moment and ramps up the power of his forehand strike to force the set point on De Jong’s serve. Against the pressure, the qualifier loses control of the forehand and sends one long of the baseline.

The Dutch challenger had been right in that second set, but it slips away at the last. Relief for Alcaraz, but he gets through a challenging set. It’s a long way back for De Jong now, who would have deserved to strike level if it fell his way.

Over on Suzanne-Lenglen, Ons Jabeur has steadied against Camila Osorio and leads 4-1 in the third set after the Colombian ran away with the second.

This is great stuff from Jesper de Jong, who continues to do Alcaraz things against the man himself. The qualifier takes another hold with an inside-out forehand down the line.

He’s right in this second set, that’s for sure, and pushed for the break in the ninth game. Alcaraz saved break point with a big forehand, shouting “Vamos” as it lands inside the line.

Alcaraz is needing to lift it, here, with the Dutchman putting on a real fight under the Philippe-Chatrier roof.

While Jesper de Jong continues to hold serve against Carlos Alcaraz, Camila Osorio has come flying back against the eighth seed Jabeur on Suzanne-Lenglen.

A 6-1 second set goes the Colombian’s way and we’re heading for a third-set decider.

We’re starting to confirmation that this afternoon’s doubles matches are being postponed until tomorrow. With a three-day start, the first round of the singles was completed on time on Tuesday but it looks as if the second round will be impacted if this continues. We’ve still only had two completed matches today, both under the roof.

Jesper de Jong is trying to do his best Carlos Alcaraz impression against the man himself, including whatever this shot was in one of their exchanges at the start of the second set. It won him the point!

De Jong then holds serve in an epic 10-minute game, sealed with a flying forehand! He’s playing his part on Philippe-Chatrier, that’s for sure.
