Fox’s Greg Olsen again opens up about losing spot to Tom Brady

During a Thursday appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Greg Olsen once again opened up about losing his spot as Fox’s lead in-game NFL analyst to living legend Tom Brady for this coming season.

“I understand the situation that I’m in,” Olsen acknowledged, as shared by Eric Italiano of BroBible. “I’m not going to sit here and say I’m thrilled and I’m doing jumping jacks over it, but, I’m a grown man. I understand what I signed up for. I understand the world that we live in, and some things don’t necessarily go your way. But I’m confident that if I can just keep doing what I’ve been doing … can I get back there one day? Absolutely.”

Olsen became an award-winning broadcaster on Fox’s top team after it was revealed in 2022 that Brady signed a 10-year deal reportedly worth $375M with the network. While many in the industry believe Brady will be a hit this coming September, some fans remain upset over the fact that Olsen will be relegated to Fox’s No. 2 crew.

That demotion reportedly includes Olsen’s salary dropping from $10M per season to $3M.

Olsen recently said that he is looking forward to what he called a “healthy competition” with Brady regarding what fans and analysts have to say about the two announcers throughout the upcoming campaign. The former tight end expanded on his mindset during his chat with Eisen.

“No different than as a player, those are the ones you live for,” Olsen said about wanting to work the biggest games on an NFL schedule for Fox or a different company. “Those are the ones that you want that pressure, you want that magnifying glass … I love that, that’s what you strive for. I’m committed to that path now more than ever.”

None of the NFL’s top media partners have lead analyst openings heading into training camp, so Olsen will have to wait things out with Fox through at least February unless Brady has second thoughts about staying retired at any point before Super Bowl LIX. With that said, Brady may soon have to decide if he’d rather work for Fox or be a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
