A mass rescue has been conducted at a beach in Sydney’s east after several people were caught in a notorious rip.
Four people became caught in the rip at Bronte Beach shortly after 8pm on Tuesday, Surf Life Saving NSW said.
Surf lifesavers and members of the public rushed to help the swimmers.

All four people were assessed by paramedics at the scene.
None were taken to hospital.
Following the incident, a fifth person became caught in the same rip but did not require rescuing.
Surf Life Saving NSW Sydney duty officer James Caterson said the incident should serve as a reminder to swimmers.
“There was a heightened level of danger due to the amount of people,” he said.
“I think it all comes back to that clear message of understanding your limitations and just swim between those red and yellow flags.”
