Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Maalik Murphy has made his transfer decision.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on Friday night that Murphy has verbally committed to Duke.
Murphy appeared in seven games for Texas this season, making two starts while Quinn Ewers was injured. He threw for 418 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions during those games, both of which the Longhorns won.
At Duke, Murphy will give new head coach Manny Diaz a legitimate quarterback for 2024. The Blue Devils have had Riley Leonard at quarterback the last few seasons, but he transferred to Notre Dame.
Murphy will not be with the Longhorns for the College Football Playoff, which will elevate Arch Manning to a backup role at Texas. Duke went 7-5 this season under Mike Elko, who has left to coach at Texas A&M.
