Florida’s 1st Wawa drive-thru to open in Largo this week

LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida’s first Wawa drive-thru is opening in Largo this week.

The 2,200-square-foot standalone drive-thru is located at 2530 East Bay Drive. It’s the first location in Florida and the third in the company.

Customers can grab their favorite Wawa items like hoagies and hot breakfast sandwiches while remaining inside their vehicles. The drive-thru will also offer Wawa’s new line of specialty beverages and Wawa Bakery items.

“Wawa has a long history of testing and innovating new store formats to provide the greatest level of convenience for our customers,” said Robert Yeatts, Sr. Director of Store Operations. “With our new Largo store, we will continue to learn from this new format while gathering feedback from our customers and associates.”

The new store is set to open Thursday at 9 a.m. An outdoor celebration is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. and a ribbon cutting at 8:45 a.m. The first 100 customers will receive a free T-shirt.

Wawa said it will host its signature Hoagies for Heroes hoagie-building competition between Largo Police and Fire Departments during the grand opening. A $1,000 prize will be donated to each department’s charity of choice.

After the grand opening, the store will be open from 5 a.m. to midnight daily.

Wawa’s first drive-thru-only store opened in Falls Township, Pennsylvania.
