Florida woman accused of stabbing ex-boyfriend’s new lover

A woman in Florida is facing charges after she showed up at his ex-boyfriend’s home unannounced and allegedly stabbing his new lover with a knife.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that officers were called to a home in Spring Hill, 75 kilometres north of Tampa, for a stabbing just after 9 p.m. on July 31.

Inside the home, cops found a woman suffering from a stab wound to the chest.

An investigation revealed the victim, 22-year-old Sydney McKelvy, is currently in a relationship with Jeffrey Hildebrandt Jr., a resident of the home, police say.

Hildebrandt told officers that he and McKelvy were “hanging out at the house” when his ex-girlfriend, identified as 19-year-old Emily Morales, arrived unannounced.

Cops say Hildebrandt believed Morales was there to create conflict. He went to notify his mother, who was in another room, that Morales was at the door.

After stepping away, McKelvy answered the door, police say, and invited Morales into the residence.

According to police, Morales immediately became confrontational with McKelvy, pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed McKelvy in the chest.

“Hearing a commotion, Hildebrandt ran to the kitchen, where he found McKelvy suffering from a stab wound,” the sherriff’s office said. “Hildebrandt observed that Morales was still armed with the pocket knife, at which time Morales attempted to stab him.”

Authorities say Morales fled from the home.

McKelvy was transported to a local trauma centre, where she underwent surgery for the stab wound.

Police say officers located Morales at her home in Spring Hill a short time later and took her into custody.

After Morales was transported to the sheriff’s office for an interview, police say, she admitted to going to ex-boyfriend’s home to confront him and also stated she was unaware that the victim was there.

“When McKelvy answered the door, Morales admitted to immediately becoming confrontational with her,” police said.

Cops say Morales accused McKelvy of taking an aggressive stance toward her. Morales said she reacted by pulling the knife from her pocket and stabbing McKelvy.

After leaving Hildebrandt’s residence, Morales told investigators she tossed the knife on her way home.

Morales was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
